The original Maker: The Monarch Manufacturing Co. was located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This was their one and only contract for A-2 jackets. It was sanctioned in mid 1941 for a relatively small quantity compared to other contracts.
Made from an aniline dyed, Russet shade, veg tanned Horsehide, this maker had it's own very distinct cut and sewing style; set-in sleeves, long lobs to the collar and centred shoulder seams were details that differed to most other makers.
The reproduction: Made from our highly acclaimed War Horse® horsehide, which is specially created, with great difficulty, to emulate the broken-grain character that is often found on originals, our Monarch Mfg Co. 23378 contract A-2 offers the ultimate in products of this genre.
The 100% veg-tanned Horsehide is traditionally tanned and sourced from Italy. There is only one way to describe it: Outstanding! Those who appreciate and understand the endearing feel and appearance of an original vintage garment, will be positively 'blown-away' by the character and quality of this amazing hide.
Naturally, our reproduction emulates every detail of this contract's house style to the last stitch, giving you a reproduction so accurate it could be mistaken for a dead-stock original.
The Eastman Monarch 23378 is another front runner from our A-2 stable!
