The BMW 2800/3.0 CS series, known internally as the BMW E9, was an extremely handsome and elegant two-door coupe built for BMW by Karmann from 1968 to 1975, with BMW's trademark 'shark nose' at the front and unusual rear lights mounted on a smart cigar shaped body and with a light and airy interior thanks to its pillarless look with lots of glass. The 2800CS was replaced by the 3.0CS and 3.0CSi in 1971. It was a brilliant evolution from the Hofmeister styled 4 cylinder BMW 2000CS coupe, which was enlarged to hold the powerful and extremely refined BMW M30 straight 6 engine, used in the E3 sedan and with fuel injection boosting performance still further in late 1972, giving the car the ability to accelerate as quickly as its smaller rival, the Porsche 911. The car had a new and longer front end to accommodate the large six cylinder engine and the model was also celebrated as the ultimate superb European high speed grand touring car.

The model was absolutely beautiful with a neat four lamp face headlight section, bodies still supplied by Karmann and beautifully trimmed with typical German high quality materials including a wooden dashboard and bucket seats, a revised independent front suspension with MacPherson front struts and a trailing arm rear plus anti-roll bars both ends; this car was indeed quite simply a work of art. The 3.0 CSi straight six cylinder engine used a single overhead cam and Bosch fuel injection to get 200 bhp. The dramatic and stunning aerodynamics for a modern day sports car was where where the car scored best with the E9 platform, never more so than with the 3.0CSL homologation special, with its legendary light weight aluminum body panels instead of steel, which helped prove very successful in racing, especially in European Touring Car Championship and the Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft. This helped to establish BMW's status as a sporty driver's car.

The engine had been bored out to give a displacement of 2,986 cc and was offered with a 9.0:1 compression ratio, twin carburettors with 180 HP at 6000 revolutions per minute in the 3.0CS or a 9.5:1 compression ratio, Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, with 200 HP at 5500 revolutions per minute in the 3.0CSi. Along with the legendary BMW 507, the BMW 2002 Turbo, the 3.0 CSL (with the L short for 'Leightmetall') and the more radical 3.2L CSL with nearly 400 bhp and nicknamed 'the Batmobile' due to its enormous fenders, huge rear spoiler and wind deflectors mounted on its hood; this is one of the most iconic classic early year BMW's ever built and certainly one of the best looking cars of its generation!

This particular model is finished in its original and beautiful factory color combination of 'Garnet Red' exterior paint with a black interior, all of which is in quite exceptional and mostly all original condition, apart from one repaint! There are no signs of any major accidents or previous rust! An obviously always babied and pampered example if there ever was one which had been owned for many years by one proud California owner before we recently purchased the car from his estate. The cars older repaint in its original 'Garnet Red' color is still in quite beautiful condition with only very minor imperfections noticeable only upon close inspection. The black interior is also in beautiful condition with virtually no signs of any major wear!

The car drives exactly like a well maintained model should and must be seen and driven to be truly appreciated! The 3.0 litre fuel injected engine is extremely strong and powerful and the four speed manual transmission has a very smooth transmission shift through all the gears and the temperature always remains cool!

You will surely look long and hard to find a finer example of this exceptionally clean and cherished and very rare and internationally desirable 1974 BMW 3.0 CSi coupe model for the ultimate time warp driving experience in this most desirable of color combinations!
